25 Days of Santa – An Advent Garland

30 Nov

I kept going back and forth on what do with the Santa cards printable from my last post

I really wanted to create a vintage looking banner/garland, but the numbers on the cards lent themselves so perfectly to an Advent calendar…In the end, I guess I created a combination of both – A Santa Advent Garland!

It’s REALLY hard to get a full picture of all 25 Santa cards, but, here is my best shot at doing just that 🙂

Let’s move in a little closer!

So what did I do? I cut out all the Santa cards, then mounted them, first on black cardstock, then again on some old sheet music that I trimmed with pinking shears…

They were then mounted on tags that I cut out using my Cricut – the tag is from the Wrap it Up cartridge. The paper used for the tags is a pack I have had in my stash for goodness knows how long – it’s the Paisley Sugarplum pack from Daisy D’s Paper.

Once I had them all together, I decided they needed some embellishing, because I can never leave well enough alone!

I tried to be true to the vintage look of the cards with my embellishments. First I added Christmas washi tape in random patterns on each tag.

I made lollies using silver paper and sheet music and flower/star shaped thingies using pipe cleaners. I added whatever I could find to them for some oomph – there’s buttons, rhinestones, sequin snowflakes, miniature candy and snowflake ornaments. You name it, if it looked festive, I tried to include it!

The mistletoe leaves and berry brads were put together and mounted on glittered and gold paper stars to add more dimension.

And what’s an Advent calendar without all the treats? On the back of each tag I added a little pocket to place them in…

I started with some small coin envelopes – I cut the flap off with pinking shears, then stamped each one with a Christmas sentiment. I had extra lolly papers cut out that weren’t being used, so I turned them into scalloped trim for each envelope which I attached with more washi tape.

Now I need to get to the store to buy some candy to put in all the envelopes!

What do you think? I am quite pleased with how it turned out, although I am always amazed at how time consuming putting something like this together can be! If you’d like to make something using the Santa cards, you can get the printable via my last post – Santa Claus is Coming to Town. And if you make something I’d love to see it!

Enjoy the Party!

Wanna know where I party? Check it out!
